SPIRITUAL PICK 'N' MIX
Liberation from the suffering of a mind imprisoned by itself requires a commitment. A commitment to discovering that which is more true than any construct created by the mind, that which is more true than any ideology or belief system or philosophical semantics that the mind clutches to in the hope of understanding truth.
This commitment requires looking past the pointers of "words" to the space from which the words arise and the space to which they are pointing. It's a deep looking that comes from the heart, a listening from openness. And if the words land in the right place, then stay with this. Stay with the path that is being offered, walk through that door. Don't go looking around for something else, some other words that might fit into the prison of mind and keep you in the comfort zone. Stay with that which lands deep within in the most intimate, the most delicate, the most quiet in you. But know that this intimate, this delicate, this quietness is not so comfortable. It challenges the mind's platform, it rocks all structures that uphold the personhood, it sends a time-bomb of truth through all dark places and breaks you open.
You see, my friend, the spiritual pick 'n' mix, the jumping from one teaching to another, from one teacher to another, from one philosophy to another, is very attractive to the mind that is built on the accumulation of knowledge and information. But it is utterly useless when it comes to coming home to rest in your true self.
The commitment is not to any one teaching or any one teacher. Although sometimes this is the most valuable way, as the deeper the trust and honesty and intimacy develops then the deeper can be your own unravelling and the closer you are to coming to rest in your true home. But really the commitment is to that which is deeper than mind, deeper than safety or comfort or approval or spiritual hierarchy. Truth is not a badge of honor, it is nothing special to feed the personhood, it is not another accumulation.
True truth is a demolition of all that you think you are and all that you think you know. True truth requires that you give yourself totally to that which keeps on landing in your innermost being and keeps on unraveling the spiritual myths, it requires that you don't give up just when it seems to get tough, it requires that you ride the tiger with gentleness, it requires that you go all the way until love is all you are and love is all that expresses itself through you. And as this love, you are both untethered and at home.
